It’s been 60 years since The Kinks formed and became one of the most influential rock bands of the 1960s. Just like The Beatles, they were part of the British Invasion of the USA until their performance ban in 1965 after a dispute with their promoter. And now the band formed by brothers Ray and Dave Davies has been honoured by having one of their biggest hits selected for King Charles III’s official Coronation Celebration Playlist on Spotify.
The 23rd track on The King’s official Coronation Celebration Playlist is Waterloo Sunset. The song about a solitary narrator watching two lovers pass over a bridge was released as a single in 1967 and features on the album Something Else by the Kinks.
It’s one of the band’s best-loved songs, having hit No 2 in the UK charts and coming No 14 on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. The track is also their first single that was available in true stereo.
