The teetotal fitness fanatic, now 53, said that health was not at the forefront of her life before she had tests. Davina, who once admitted an addiction to Class A drugs, said: “When they said I had high cholesterol, I just looked at my GP and asked if it was mistake!
“I considered myself to be healthy and it never crossed my mind I would be at risk of something like this. I always associated high cholesterol with something you get when you’re old – definitely not something you develop in your 20s!”
She said cheese and processed meats had been a regular feature of her weekly diet.
But she discovered there was a family history of high cholesterol and her grandmother had suffered a heart attack.
She said: “It really made me want to look after myself and make sure that I’m fit and healthy for when I become a grandma.
“I wasn’t going to be able to do that if I didn’t do anything about my cholesterol.”
Davina is fronting Cholesterol Uncovered campaign launched by health foods firm Raisio Nutrition.
The condition affects six in 10 adults in the UK and is linked to heart disease and strokes.
Many people mistakenly believe being superfit like Davina means they are not at risk.
