A cooking enthusiast who is self-styled as “the most evil chef on TikTok” has left viewers gagging with their latest creation – mashed potato made out of soggy crisps.

In the clip, uploaded a week ago (January 19) TikTok user @Elis_Kitchen makes what is described as “signature cheesy mashed potatoes” but other people compared the food to “vomit”.

First, a pan of salted water and vinegar is put on the boil, followed by several packets of Lays potato crisps.

When the mixture is thoroughly gloopy, it is strained through a sieve and the mushy sediment is stirred through with grated cheese and a few shakes of smoked paprika.

The end result is a vaguely yellow and pink lumpy mix, which the food lover tastes and says is “delicious”.

Understandably, not many people share the same point of view, and although the video has been “liked” more than 140,000 times, thousands of people have commented to say it looks gross and inedible.

One fan joked: “This looks illegal.”

Another person commented; “I can’t wait for Gordon Ramsay to find this.”

“This made me feel really sick,” confessed another tormented viewer.

“Not to be mean but that looks like stomach acid,” commented someone else.

A shocked viewer wrote: “I’m seeing comments saying this looks good. Y’all need to reevaluate your taste buds.”

Meanwhile, a true admirer said: “I have tried every recipe on your page and this one is the best one yet.”

The crazy recipe even got the attention of a professional chef who branded the crisps mash “ludicrous”.

Brad Carter, the chef behind Michelin-starred Carters of Moseley in Birmingham, told Insider : “It looks like sludge and it’s obviously not good mashing all that frying oil into your food.

“I’m a purist. A mash is a dish on its own, so it needs respect.”

He added: “Ten out of ten for lockdown innovation though, I must say.”
