After waltzing all the way to the final of last year’s Strictly Come Dancing and eventually becoming a runner-up, Emma Barton knows all too well what it’s like to compete on the hit dance show.
The actress, who previously thought she wouldn’t be picked for Strictly because of her professional dancing experience, has praised her EastEnders co-star Maisie Smith who is competing on the current series.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with OK! Online, the 43 year old said: “She’s just fantastic! She takes it seriously, she works really hard and she’s loving every minute of it.
“There’s not more you can ask of somebody I don’t think and she’s just doing it, and we’re all really proud of her at Eastenders.”

“She just doesn’t have any fear and I love that, I wish I could have had an ounce of that when I was doing it. I know I am a lot older than her but being able to do those lifts and flips, it’s so brave.
“Her and Gorka are a fantastic partnership, I think they just look great together,” Emma gushed.
Maisie, 19, and her dance partner Gorka Marquez have found themselves in the bottom two for the last two weeks in a row, narrowly missing out on elimination to The Wanted’s Max George and actress Caroline Quinten.
When asked how her colleague can come back from being in the dance-off, Emma, who was delighted after reuniting with former co-star Rita Simons in 2019, shared: “I was very fortunate, I never had that experience. I never had that red light on and was never in the dance off, so I don’t know.
“What she is doing is the correct thing to do, and that’s going, ‘Right move on, forget that week, you can’t repeat that again’.
“You still go into the next week thinking about the dance you did the week before and actually, you just have to forget it, move on and crack on with the next dance and just do what she’s doing,” the soap star explained.
“I don’t think she needs any advice from me, what she’s doing is just brilliant.”
