Viewers of Family Fortunes were left in hysterics after the ITV quiz show featured a fairly prominent mis-spelling in an on-screen graphic.
The episode, which aired on Sunday (4 October), saw two families be asked to guess the most popular responses for the category “favourite superpowers”.
Contestant Michelle Egan was the first to buzz in, giving the answer: “To be invisible.”
Presenter Gino D’Acampo was quick to congratulate her, because “Invisibility” was indeed the top-scoring answer.
Or rather, it should have been – Family Fortunes viewers were instead informed, via the familiar on-screen chart, that the top answer was in fact “Invisiblity”.
People at home were quick to pounce on the error, with many describing their surprise and amusement on social media.
“Wish the superpower was spelling!” joked one commenter.
Another wrote that they were “irrationally angry” that the word had been spelled incorrectly.
“Bet whoever did these graphics wishes they were invisible when they realise they spelt it wrong,” quipped someone else.
Family Fortunes first aired in 1980 on ITV, and was hosted by Bob Monkhouse. He was replaced by Max Bygraves in 1983, who ceded the spot to Les Dennis in 1987.
While the series’ original run ended in 2002, Family Fortunes was recently revived, and now airs on Sundays at 8pm on ITV.
