Smells like heaven.
And also it smells like my crazy year
is when I was like 17 and 18.
It smells like party time.[laughs]
I’m Ava Max and these are my ten essentials.
My first essential is coffee.
Coffee is one of my main essentials.
Usually I make an espresso and then I add a little bit
of oat milk and then some honey.
I like like a spoonful of honey.
Without the honey it’s just too bitter for me.
I like it kinda sweet.
My coffee needs to be hot.
I hate, I hate the word hate because it’s really strong,
but I dislike lukewarm coffee.
I reheat my coffee a bit too much.
Like my microwave like is not happy with me.
I’m always like hitting it open, closing it.
Sometimes I literally sip on one cup of coffee all day
and my friends are like, why are you still drinking
that one coffee from 11 in the morning?
And so I think I’ve gotten this reputation
with my girlfriends that I just like,
hold my coffee all day but I swear I’m drinking it.
I need it for energy. [laughs]
[upbeat music] Simply Gum.
I’m like a commercial, Simply Gum, but actually,
I fell in love with this gum because it’s simple gum.
It doesn’t have like the crazy chemicals that, you know,
we grew up eating in our gum and our candy, which, you know,
we didn’t know as kids, we were eating chemicals,
but this is the best.
And I always keep it in my purse because who doesn’t want
to have fresh breath?
My favorite flavor is peppermint.
I do not like spearmint.
Spearmint is like fake mint.
It’s just not my thing, but peppermint, really good.
The next essential, I know.
Are you ready for it?
Pistachios! [upbeat music]
I feel like I’m always hungry.
And lately I’ve been trying like the whole gluten free diet.
And so I don’t have crackers anymore on me.
So I always have some kind of nuts.
That sounds so weird.
Some kind of nut, but pistachios in my bag.
If they’re too salty then my cheeks go
from like left to right.
Like I just look like, you know.
Pistachios are my jam.
Chanel body lotion,
but I use it kind of like as a hand lotion.
It’s really dry in California
and especially with sanitizing your hands all the time now
My hands are just getting so dry.
So I love moisturizing my hands and it smells pretty good.
You know, Chanel, you can’t go wrong.
I was wearing Chanel perfume for a long time.
And so I went to look for like hand lotion and I stumbled
Urban Decay lipstick,
♪ Don, don, don, don, don ♪
I wear lipstick all the time and I just feel like
you don’t even need to have eye makeup on,
you put lipstick on.
It’s like a quick, I don’t even need a mirror, you know?
And like, bam, you’re ready to go.
And you really gotta know your lips, first of all.
So you gotta apply it a lot in front of a mirror.
And then you advance without the mirror.
You just tap, you tap a little, tap like like that.
And then this is the face you do when
you look in the mirror.
This is my favorite color ever.
Like I wear this like every single day, photo shoots,
Somebody could probably say can we try something new?
I’m like, no, I like this.
This right here is it’s like,
I just like, I love it.
I just liked the color.
This one is backtalk, comfort matte.
Oh and I don’t like shiny lips.
I don’t like lip gloss.
It is not my thing.
My hair gets caught in the lips when I wear lip gloss.
And it’s like, can you even walk with lip gloss?
Like how do people do it?
They’re like, honestly, geniuses.
Like, I don’t know how to do it.
So matte, I love Urban Decay, so yeah.
[upbeat music] AirPods, bam, bam, bam.
AirPods are literally my best friend.
I tune out everything in life with these.[laughs]
And I put on my favorite music.
I call everyone on my AirPods.
I’m always on my AirPods.
I feel like my AirPods, like I, get me through the day,
especially when I go to the grocery store,
which I have been a lot during quarantine
’cause I like to eat.
So at the grocery store,
I put my earphones on and I’m like, hello?
Especially if someone looks like they’re gonna talk
to me, I’m like, what did you say?
And it’s just like,
it works every time.
I’ve lost every AirPod.
I mean, I’m surprised this is here because I have lost
them all on airplanes.
And I haven’t been on airplanes much this year.
So that’s why she still loves ’em.
And I’m Albanian, so in Albania we have a saying,
and it’s really hard to explain it in English,
So basically it’s like, Oh, the devil took it.
You can’t find it ’cause the devil took it.
That’s how I feel all my AirPods went.
They like, literally they just, he just took it.
So my next item is very important item,
because I am five foot two,
and all my friends are really tall, but the heels.
I don’t go anywhere without platforms.
Like the only time you’ll see me without platforms or heels
is when I’m working out, going to the gym,
running around my neighborhood.
Literally that’s it.
Even in the house, sometimes I wear heels.
You know, I’ve started getting
into the nineties little sandal where it has like,
you know, I don’t know an inch and a half,
but like I still feel really short in them.
It’s like I was born in heels, like,
and then someone took them off and then I felt like naked
Does that make sense?
I’m just gonna say heels.
This is like the best thing ever,
ever invented heels.
I need sunglasses always.
I’m basically a vampire.
I stay up all night and then I wake up late.
That’s like my mojo.
You know, I’d rather live at night all the time.
If I left my house and I did not have any sunglasses
in my car, I would go back and get them.
And I have multiple times because I’m literally like,
I can’t, I can’t, I can’t.
The sun is so bright.
Light triggers my headaches.
I need sunglasses all the time.
I have so many sunglasses.
I mean, they are wrangled up
in and a bunch of chain jewelry and different purses.
And like, they’re not even like neatly put on the table.
They’re just like flung everywhere.
Like I have five by my sink
and then I have like three next to my makeup.
And then I have like seven in different bags.
This is my new one, Balenciaga.
And they’re like my favorite thing ever.
They’re kind of futuristic.
Cash is an essential for me.
You know I am not that organized.
So I tell myself I’m gonna have a certain amount of cash
on me in case for emergencies,
but truly, I don’t have that much cash on me.
So like lately I’ve just been like making sure
I at least have $20 in cash.
When I was really, really, really broke.
And I had to ask my friends for like dinners and lunches,
I would have $20 a week.
So $20 definitely feels very close to me.
And I would do a lot with $20, you know.
Like $20 a week got me through.
The item that I’m sure everybody can’t live without.
And I think it’s just because we have so many memories on.
We don’t have like the pic, the handheld pictures now.
So like all the pictures are on our phone.
And personally, if I misplaced my phone,
I literally go into this panic.
Like, I’m like, uh, where did it go!
I didn’t save my photos!
It’s not in my iCloud.
That’s all I care about is my photos, by the way.
And my family, when they’re with me, they’re like calm down.
It’s literally in your back pocket
or it’s literally in your fridge
or it’s literally in your car.
I’m just like, huh, yeah, I knew that.
Two phones before this,
I had a phone turn off completely and never turn back on
and I lost like 11,000 photos and I just,
part of me died that day.
Most of my pictures are inspiration pictures.
I probably should open up like Pinterest
and have everything on that, right.
I mean, that’s really what I should probably do.
Cause I just take screenshots of all my inspirations
and quotes and like literally all kinds of pictures,
like what I want certain shoots to look like,
or video or visuals and then when you lose that,
you’re just like, no, but I had the perfect vision
and I don’t remember.
Alright, GQ, thank you so much for hanging
with me and my weird self.
These are my ten essentials and I hope you resonated
with some of them, but if you didn’t it’s okay,
’cause they’re my ten essentials.
I’ll see you next time.
