On Friday’s This Morning, Loose Women’s Brenda Edwards bravely opened up on her experience of domestic abuse in a past relationship.
Brenda grew emotional as she spoke about a relationship in her past where she was subjected to domestic abuse.
She told her fellow panellists how during the relationship she suffered psychological abuse, was punched in the face and strangled, but felt unable to tell her family or close friends.
She said: “I hadn’t spoke to any of my family.
“I thought if I speak to my family they’re going to get involved, then this could turn even uglier, then I’ll be blaming myself for something else.”
After finally telling a friend about what she had been going through, she was helped leave and in the following years she found her own home.
However, two years later, her ex turned up at her door with flowers but the situation soon turned scary as he had a knife on him before the police came.
Brenda bravely revealed how the years of domestic abuse she suffered has affected her and how she has struggled to move on in the years since.
Viewers watching threw support behind Brenda as one person wrote: “Brenda. I empathise with you. Fair play to you today. So brave. I know that feeling when a wave hits you and it all comes back. We were strong tho . Lots of love xx.”
Another said: “Well done, Brenda for speaking out. My DV ended 30 years ago when I got away yet I found myself crying watching you just now xx.”
A third person wrote: “In tears Brenda, you’ re so strong, you’ll have helped a lot of people today.”
Brenda bravely spoke about her own story after EastEnders star Toby-Alexander Smith appeared on the ITV show.
