Parents have been left “disturbed” and “horrified” over a parenting technique which has emerged.
“Teddy torture” has the internet up in arms after a video emerged last year of a dad angrily smacking his son’s Mickey Mouse toy until he agrees to eat his food.
The video emerged on Twitter alongside the caption: “When kids don’t wanna eat.. this is what you gotta do.”
Other videos emerged of parents using the technique, in which you repeatedly hit your child’s favourite toy, until they agree to eat their meal.
The viral video cause so much outrage that it was discussed on Loose Women, with some branding the viral videos “disgusting”.
Coleen Nolan insisted children who are punished in this way will grow up with “genuine issues” concerning food.
“They’re just training them through fear,” the panelist said.
Meanwhile parents on Twitter took to the social media platform to express their disgust over the technique.
One concerned mum wrote: “Please tell me that Child Line/Social Services have been advised and that they are doing something about this. These parents have to be tracked down and have their children taken from them. My heart feels so sore and aches for these innocent babies. xx”.
A second added: “Disgusting behaviour a child shouldnt be subjected to seeing its MOTHER beating its teddy so the child would eat its food.”
While a third wrote: “To ‘beat up’ a toy that violently in front of a young child is disturbing, if I did that to my sons favourite toy he would be terrified, and I would be terrified about what behaviour he would then consider ‘normal’ you’re basically saying if you don’t eat this is what ill do.”
Another added: “If you think this is fun you have some serious issues.”
