Pinterest has been my most-used social media app since quarantine began—partially because it’s helped me organize my thoughts (which are pretty hard to grasp these days) and partially because my shopping habits have evolved into a “I’ve had a hard day so I deserve it” sort of situation.
If you haven’t heard already, they recently added a shop feature to the app, which lets you buy the items you can’t stop pinning (it gives a whole new meaning to the word “convenient”). Likewise, the new feature lets you follow the shops you’ve been loving most.
Today, the company added to its benefits, launching its newest Shop collection, which features twenty-plus black-owned fashion and beauty brands with over 600 products in honor of National Black Business Month. “With searches for ‘Black-owned business’ up 13 times since before the movements, Pinterest is making it easier to discover and shop unique products from these mission-driven brands,” says Pinterest in their newsroom.
As I scrolled through the shop today, I not only found what felt like hundreds of potential buys, but I had the opportunity to learn about the brands and their founders, which gave me a whole new perspective on shopping.
All of the brands have a unique story and a plentiful product selection. To name a few: nolaskinentials is a vegan, cruelty-free skin-care brand created specifically for melanin-rich skin; NaturAll Club is a hair-care company founded by Muhga Eltigani after commercial hair products left her hair dry and damaged; Ceylon is a scientifically backed skin-care brand that was developed for men of color; and UOMA Beauty, which houses all the makeup essentials, is founded on the idea that beauty starts the moment you decide to be yourself.
