She explained: “Everyone has got to get on with sadness and grief and loss from the coronavirus so we can get on together.”
Kate added: “Derek would not just be saying: ‘Why don’t you come back?’ He would be saying: ‘Why didn’t you do this before?’”
The presenter then revealed the emotional words her husband told her as he was taken into hospital 100 days ago.
She said: “As he got into the ambulance he told me: ‘Go inside and make them feel safe’.
“Whatever happens, they have to feel they have a world.”

Kate also opened up on Derek’s condition on the show as she explained to viewers: “About him and the coma, It’s a strange word, coma. He was induced into the coma, which is what they were doing then because it was a way of resting the lungs when people had very acute covid.
“Of course, now they are no longer keeping him in a coma and he’s sort of can’t wake up. I don’t want to get too medical – Dr Hilary will say.
“But, there’s two types of coma, there’s one called a vegetative coma where somebody is completely unconscious, you can stab them and they won’t react and there’s where Derek is, which is a minimum state of consciousness.
“Wonderfully, his eyes are opening but we have no real knowledge of what he can see and feel, hear.”

Kate then continued to explain that doctors told her it was a “miracle” he husband is still alive.
She emotionally said: “It is a very desperate situation. It’s very, very difficult and of course there’s fantastic hope that she’s still alive.
“The doctors do keep saying, it is a miracle he is still alive. I was speaking to somebody yesterday, a doctor that has treated him in two of the hospitals he has been in and said: ‘He is sick as anyone I’ve ever seen in 35 years of medicine never mind covid. And some of the people that are as sick as him aren’t here’.”
Kate continued: “Six times they said: ‘He’s not going to make it and we’ll call you in an hour,’ so he is being very, very sick.
“The problem is, is that it’s a new disease which nobody knows, there’s no data. So, what they can say to me is: ‘It’s great he’s here, it’s great that there are some flickers of hope’.”
