A woman claims her daughter is “ungrateful” after she refused to give her £15,000 towards her wedding to another woman.
The American mum wrote a post on the forum, Reddit, reports the Mirror.
In the post she explains that she and her husband had saved their whole lives to put their daughter through college.
After her clever child managed to get a lot of scholarships they didn’t need to use all of the cash to this end.
So, they offered her the spare $20,000 – £15,000 – when she graduated.
However, the daughter said she would prefer to use it towards a wedding.
Her parents agreed to this.
Several years later the daughter became engaged, but it seems her mum was no longer happy for her to have the money.
In the post, in the Am I the A**hole section of the forum, the mum wrote out her point of view.
She said: “About four years ago my daughter came out as bi-sexual and started dating a girl, this shocked us a lot because we never saw her as the type.
“My husband and I were really upset because we loved the idea of her having a husband and a family, grandchildren for us.
“We thought it was just a phase but four years later they are still together and they got engaged last month.”

The mum continued: “They came over to visit and do some wedding planning, she got her journal and it had the finances they put aside for the wedding as well as ‘20k- Mom and Dad’.
“I saw this and told her that we were planning on using that 20k for renovations now.
“She questioned us and we were upfront and said we agreed for her to use that money under the assumption she was marrying a man.
“Her girlfriend got very upset and started calling us homophobic, and my daughter just sat there letting her go off at us.”
The parent claims that her daughter left in a huff telling them not to speak to her ever again.

She added: “My daughter said ‘that money was mine and I had it all planned out to use it towards the wedding’ – well no it is our money that we saved with a specific use.”
The mum said she thought her child was being “ungrateful”.
She continued: “My other daughter has now turned on us as well and said we are terrible parents.
“I am not homophobic I respect same sex couples it is just not what I wanted for my daughter. AITA?”
The comments exploded as 2.4k people responded.
“‘I don’t hate gay people… I just don’t want YOU to be gay,’” said one person.
Another wrote: “It’s not even about the money, it’s about how you refusing to give the money clearly shows that you don’t consider her relationship valid or good enough.
“It shows that you think less of her because of her sexuality, and that’s horrible.”
Many pointed out that same sex couples could marry and adopt children.
The mum added an edit to her post which read: “Wow I wasn’t expecting this reaction.
“I have rethought my stance and I will be trying to be more understanding of my daughter.”
