‘Ridiculous and unfair’: Dannii Minogue sparks outcry as she quarantines in a Gold Coast home instead of a government-mandated hotel after returning from the U.S.

Australians have been left outraged after Dannii Minogue avoided hotel quarantine after flying into Queensland from the United States over the weekend.

The 48-year-old singer and her 10-year-old son, Ethan, were reportedly granted an exemption on medical grounds and are quarantining at a private property on the Gold Coast.

Some members of the public are claiming this is ‘ridiculous and unfair’ as other travellers are being forced to pay a $2,800 hotel quarantine bill upon their return to Australia.

Inbound travellers are being made to quarantine in hotels at their own expense to limit the spread of COVID-19, as the country faces the threat of a second wave of infection after cases spiked in the state of Victoria.

‘Absolutely ridiculous! Dannii Minogue you are not above the law! @ScottMorrisonMP how do you let this happen?’ one outraged citizen tweeted.

Another wrote: ‘This is wrong… Dannii Minogue should have been put in hotel quarantine just like everyone else who comes to Australia is.’

‘I love you dearly but think you should not have been given an exemption. Reeks of privilege and favouritism,’ a third commented.

‘Relieved to hear Dannii Minogue was able to avoid hotel quarantine and the $3,800 [sic] bill that comes with it. I’m sure my brother will be treated with the same generosity because right now he’s looking at spending money he doesn’t have to come home,’ a fourth person tweeted.

A similar comment read: ‘Why was she allowed to do that? Shame on the authorities who allowed it and shame on Dannii Minogue, too.’

‘Well here we go again. State Governments splitting hairs which causes challenges and confusion. Their mantra should be, if it’s good enough for Dannii Minogue, it’s good enough for everyone. Restart the clock… this is gonna be a mess,’ another angry Aussie tweeted.

On Monday, 7NEWS reported that Dannii and her son, Ethan, had been granted an exemption on medical grounds and were quarantining at a private property on the Gold Coast.

The Queensland government is said to have granted the pair special permission after Dannii presented a letter from her doctor upon her arrival in Australia over the weekend.

Dannii and Ethan reportedly went straight to the property after leaving the airport, and will remain there for the duration of their 14-day quarantine.

She has also agreed to be tested for coronavirus multiple times during her quarantine.

No one is allowed to visit the property where she is staying, and Dannii and her son won’t be allowed to leave until the quarantine period is up.
